5 Chinese Companies in MIT Technology Review’s Smartest 50 List

MIT Technology Review has unveiled the smartest companies in 2016, with Amazon topping the list, and China’s Baidu winning the second spot.

Baidu, the country’s leading web services company, has made a big jump from last year’s position at No. 21.

Another Chinese company considered smart enough to get into the top ten is China’s smartphone maker Huawei, which takes tenth position.

China’s Internet giant Tencent, popular cab-hailing app Didi, and largest internet retail website Alibaba have taken the 20th, 21st and 24h position, respectively.

In a surprise, last year’s second smartest company Xiaomi failed to show up in the 2016 rankings.

Apple shares the same fate, and was unable to make its way into the list.

World-renowned companies, such as Alphabet, Facebook, Toyota, Bosch and Intel have all occupied places on the list.

Each year, MIT chooses 50 companies worldwide with the best performance in combining “innovative technology with an effective business model”.
